Experienced, focused and committed.

Hello, I’m Alistair Plimmer. I have lived in the Greytown area for the last 20 years, growing up in the Wairarapa where I attended school. On completion of school, I left the Wairarapa to serve in the Army as an Infantry Officer for 20 years. On my return to the Wairarapa with my family I was the GM of Oldfields Aggregates, Ready Mix and then Branch Manager Wairarapa for five years.

I have immersed myself in the local community as a Cub and Scout leader for almost 7 years, a junior rugby coach for a couple of seasons, the Chair of Greytown School BOT for 6 years and as Chair of St Matthew’s School Board of Trustees in Masterton.

I also serve the community as a Justice of the Peace.

A strong voice for Wairarapa.

I have served our community as a Councillor on the South Wairarapa District Council for 6 years and as the SWDC rep on the Combined District Plan review. In those 6 years I have proved a strong advocate for our community and have managed to get things done.

I am now standing for the Regional Council because it has become very clear to me that the Regional Council is not reflecting the views and aspirations of the people of the Wairarapa.

With my work in the Wairarapa over the last 20 years I have gained an in-depth knowledge of the challenges of district-wide river management, infrastructure issues and logistical/transport issues which have been furthered by my role as a Commissioner on the Combined District Plan

I do not hide the true state of our regional representation to you. I am not shy of controversy. In my six years on SWDC I have confronted issues head-on and has been a strong voice across the community. I have shown that I am prepared to challenge the status quo – something I believe Wairarapa needs on the Regional Council.
It is time for a change of focus and representation. I offer both.

Putting our region first.

My priorities, which I hope are also yours, have not changed:

Provide leadership, honesty and a strong voice for our community on the Regional Council.
Bring a truly Wairarapa voice to decision making on the council.
Make sure decisions that affect the Wairarapa have a Wairarapa focus foremost, instead of a Wellington lens, especially in the use and management of our infrastructure, transport links and natural resources.
Make the GWRC council and staff accountable to the people of the Wairarapa on decisions that affect us.
